Tachometer stuck

I have a 2003 avalanche with 45000 miles on it. The tach. is stuck between 5 and 6.When I turn the vehicle off it does not go back to zero. It stay at 5. Any suggestions ???

Most likely a stepper motor has gone out in your cluster.  I had to change my speedo's.  Ohiobellboy has a nice writeup somewhere here on how to do it.
