miles per oil change ?
« on: December 18, 2011, 12:16:05 pm »
Hello , I'am a new owner of a 2004 Avalanche , Just got it about 3 weeks ago and just love it !! I have always owned Chevy , I was wandering How many miles between oil changes on an Avalanche do most owners run ? I'am running synthetic oil and only put about 10,000 miles a year on the truck.    Thanks    Kevin

Oil questions will get you plenty of different responses. I run dino oil in both of ours and change it between 3-4k miles. I don't use the oil life meter. I've drained the oil before using that and it was absolutely filthy not to mention over 1 qt low so I went back to the old method.

I use Mobile One full synthetic, I change at 5k intervals, although it is supposed to be good for about 8k.  Using dino oil, before I changed to synthetic, I changed every 3k.  I also change filters at each oil change.

I've used synthetic since I bought the truck. Based on very goog UOA results on direct-injection engines that have been shown to be really hard on oil, I am currently using Pennzoil Platinum. I change mine once a year or when the oil change monitor indicates it's time for a change, whichever comes first. I typically drive 8-10000 miles per year in the Avalanche as it's my "second" vehicle.

Before installing my supercharger at 234,000 miles, I changed the oil per the oil life monitor with full synthetic oil, usually Redline, although I have used both Royal Purple and Mobile One once each.  I'm now changing the oil at 6,000 miles with the supercharger.  I'm the original owner of my 2003 AV.  I live in a small Indiana town in a county of 30,000 people, so it doesn't see much stop and go traffic; my drive to work is over 20 minutes, so it sees easy highway miles and gets up to full operating temp twice a day during the work week.
