Problems: Interior / Re: 04 midgate bed trim piano hinge rusted out

It has been 10+ years since I messed with that but I believe you can lift and pull the entire piece out of the truck. Might make it easier to take a look at.

I'd guess you'll probably want to find a replacement, either from a wrecked AV or a new one from the dealership/ebay. There's probably no fixing the one you have.

Problems: Interior / 04 midgate bed trim piano hinge rusted out

I'm not sure what the official name is for the trim piece that folds down to cover the gap left by the midgate. The spring-loaded piano hinge is a big strip of rust. I vacuumed out all the leaf litter, dirt and debris that was holding moisture against it and hit it with penetrating oil, but I fear it's too late. In fact, I fear the underlying metal may be compromised too, but can't tell for certain until I get rid of the hinge.

Is this a common problem and is there an accepted fix for this?

I believe this is the part you're looking for:

That response was not the one I was looking for, nor did it answer the question I asked: instead, you answered my problem and saved me a whole lot of unnecessary work! Thankyou very much, sir.

But out of curiosity, is there a cross reference somewhere that shows what ring gear diameter goes with which ratio or RPO code?

We have no relationship with 1A Auto but I believe this is the part you're looking for: https://www.1aauto.com/brake-backing-plate-%28two-piece-unit---split-type%29-rear/i/1abmk00056

Problems: Drivetrain & Steering / Which axle do I have?

I just bought a 2004 Avalanche and this is my first post here.

It's in pretty nice shape for the year, but there's a few little things to be dealt with. The subject tonight is changing the rear brake backing plates. I have a PDF of the FSM and see that I must remove the axle shafts to change the backing plates. The FSM makes reference to an 8.6" axle, a 8.5" axle and a 9.75" axle. I imagine that when I order gaskets and parts, I'm gonna need to know which one I have!

The RPO list includes Z71 chassis, GT4 (3.73:1 axle), G80 (limited slip/posi traction), C5W (7,000 GVW rating).

Can anyone tell me which axle I have from the above list? Or how to figure it out for myself?

Hello y'all! First off I love thjs forum and all the advice i have gotten from it so far. I just bought my first avy and am so I'm love with her. It's an 05 1500 with cladding. I named her Miss Ava lol! But i have a question. Has anyone put vinyl wrap on their cladding? I'm not worried about the texture showing through because im wanting to use a camo wrap, but would it still stuck decently? I know that heating it up would help it. Any thoughts?

I'm not a vinyl expert but I've seen other AV's that have had this done. If you find a good shop to do the work they should be able to apply it correctly so you don't have any issues.
